Fairmont

We are fortunate that often the spaces we are asked to design are iconic or simply exceptional. The Fairmont is one of these spaces. Extending over two floors, 6,400 square feet of interior space plus a rooftop deck, this three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath penthouse has some of the most spectacular panoramic outlooks in a city celebrated for its views. Having worked with the client on their U.K. and West Vancouver residences, we knew they were looking for a sense of tranquility and calm in their home.

The large-scale views are almost overwhelming in the space, so our challenge was to support them, rather than compete with them. To do so, we borrowed much of our colour palette from the surrounding vistas. The base interior finishings are muted, with bleached white oak hardwood throughout the principal rooms, and sand- and taupe-coloured stone for the bathrooms. We designed most of the furniture, creating both case and soft goods proportional to the rooms, and pieces of heirloom craftsmanship befitting a home of this calibre.
